About

Tonic & Tea is a blog about all things women and health.

I started this blog early on in my PhD as a workout for my writing muscle (academia involves a lot of writing), but also to have an outlet where I could share what the research world is saying about women and their bodies with women themselves.

For much of documented history women were largely excluded from the institutions (e.g. religion, education, medicine) that created knowledge about their bodies and prescribed their social roles. Even with these barriers we have achieved incredible things. While things are improvinglargely due to the efforts of women but also some menthere is still much to be done to ensure that medical research and practise reflects the interests of the entire population and not just (white, straight, wealthy) men. I hope that Tonic & Tea contributes to this in at least some small way.
